Terms of Service

Terms of Sale

What you're buying

Switchmake is a subscription software service. When you sign up you're purchasing access to the platform for a recurring monthly fee. There is no physical product and nothing ships. Your account is active as soon as you complete signup.

Plan and pricing

Switchmake has one plan, Craftsman. The current price, plan limits, and what's included are published at switchmake.com/pricing, and those published terms are part of this agreement. The price you pay is the one shown when you subscribed, as reflected in your billing settings. Price changes follow "Price and plan changes".

What's included. Craftsman includes every feature, within the limits published on the pricing page. The Nutrition Engine is an optional add-on at the price published there -- it's optional and never required to keep using anything already included in your plan. If we ever change what's included in the plan, or introduce a new paid add-on, we'll treat it as a plan change under "Price and plan changes" with the same advance notice, and you can cancel at any time with no penalty.

Bandwidth is a fair-use guideline, not a hard cutoff. If your store is consistently well above it, we'll get in touch rather than shutting anything off. We will never block a customer from checking out because of bandwidth.

Prices are in US dollars. We do not charge a percentage of your sales.

Free trial

New accounts start with a 30-day free trial.

If you sign up with a card, we collect your payment details at signup but do not charge you during the trial. Your subscription starts automatically at the end of the 30 days unless you cancel first. Your first charge occurs on that date.

Billing

Subscriptions are billed monthly in advance. Your billing period runs from the date your subscription starts, not from the first of the calendar month.

Payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.

Cancellation

Cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. Until then nothing changes: your store stays online and your admin works exactly as it did before.

Refunds

Switchmake is software, so there's nothing to ship back and nothing to return. The trial and the cancellation policy take the place of a return policy:

  • The 30-day free trial is how you decide whether Switchmake is right for you. You aren't charged during it.

  • Cancel any time. You keep full access to the end of the period you've paid for.

  • We don't prorate or refund partial months.

If you were charged incorrectly, charged after cancelling, or something else went wrong with your account, email us and we'll sort it out. If you have concerns about a particular situation, contact us and we'll consider it.

Price and plan changes

If we change the subscription price, plan limits, or what's included in the plan, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email or in the app. A change never applies to a period you've already paid for. If you don't want the new terms, cancel before they take effect.

If your subscription ends

Whether you cancel or your subscription lapses, here's exactly what happens.

Through the end of the period you've paid for, nothing changes. Your store is live, your admin works, and you can export anything you want. This is the window to take your data with you — please use it.

When the period ends:

  • Your storefront goes offline. Visitors see a short notice, not your shop.

  • Your @service.switchmake.com address stops receiving mail. Anyone who writes to it gets a bounce message telling them the shop is no longer active. Tell your customers where to reach you before this happens.

  • You can't sign in. There's no read-only mode and no separate download link — signing in is how you get your data, and that ends with your subscription.

Your data is kept for one year. We don't delete your store when your subscription ends. Resubscribe within that year and everything is exactly as you left it — products, orders, customers, pages, images. This is deliberate: seasonal makers shouldn't have to choose between paying year-round and losing their work.

We try to send reminders by email before access ends and before the retention year runs out. Treat them as a courtesy rather than something to rely on — email goes astray, addresses go stale, and the dates above are the ones that count. Keeping your contact email current helps.

After that year, your data is permanently deleted and can't be recovered from any backup.

Your store address

Your store address — the yourname.switchmake.com part — is yours while your subscription is active and through the year we hold your data.

After that, it goes back into the pool and someone else may claim it. We hold it out of use for at least 90 days beyond the retention year first, and mail sent to your old store address bounces visibly for that entire period, so nobody inherits a live address that people still believe is yours.

If your store address matters to your brand long-term, use a custom domain. A domain you own is yours no matter what happens to your account here.

Your data

Your work is yours, and getting it out shouldn't require asking us.

Export any time. Every list in your admin — products, orders, customers, ingredients, pages, and the rest — has a download button that gives you a spreadsheet file (CSV). It opens in Excel, Numbers, Google Sheets, or anything else that reads a spreadsheet.

We export the whole table, not just the page you're looking at, and we don't truncate long fields. Dates come out in a standard format and numbers come out unformatted, so you can sort, filter, and pivot without cleaning them up first.

What you can delete. You can delete individual products, components, pages, and other things you've drafted. We deliberately don't offer a "delete everything" button, and orders can't be deleted at all — they're your financial and tax records, and a mis-click shouldn't be able to destroy them. If you need something removed that you can't remove yourself, email us.

Removing a customer's personal information. If one of your customers asks to have their information erased, open the order and request erasure. We remove their name, email, and address and keep the order totals, since you still need those records for your taxes.

Backups. We keep backups to run the platform and recover from failures. They're not a substitute for your own copies — download what you can't afford to lose.

Your store, your responsibility

Switchmake gives you the software. What you sell through it is yours.

You are the seller

We are not a party to sales between you and your customers. You set your prices, describe your products, fulfill your orders, and handle your own returns and customer service. Payments run through your own Stripe account, and chargebacks and customer disputes are yours to resolve.

What you can sell

You're responsible for selling legally where you operate, and for holding whatever licenses, registrations, or permits your products require — including cottage food registration where your state requires it.

Don't use Switchmake for anything illegal, anything you don't have the right to sell, or anything on our payment processor's restricted business list. We follow their rules: if they won't process it, we can't host it.

Nutrition, ingredients, and allergens

Switchmake calculates nutrition figures from published ingredient data and the recipe information you enter. Those figures have not been laboratory tested. They're estimates, and actual values vary by ingredient brand, batch, moisture, and preparation.

What this means for you as a seller: you are the food manufacturer. You're responsible for the accuracy of the recipe data you enter, for allergen disclosure, and for determining what your product's label legally requires where you sell it. We don't know what's in your kitchen, what equipment you share, or what your suppliers handle. Our output is a starting point, not a compliant label, and it is not an allergen statement.

What this means for your customers: nutrition information shown on a Switchmake store is calculated, not tested, and provided as an estimate. If you have a food allergy or a medical dietary restriction, contact the seller directly before ordering. Sellers prepare food in facilities that may handle other allergens.

Your content

You own your photos, text, recipes, and product data. You give us permission to host, store, resize, transform, and display them as needed to run your store — including image treatments you request through Darkroom. That permission ends when your content does.

We don't use your content to train AI models, and our AI vendors don't either.

Taxes

Determining, collecting, and remitting sales tax is your responsibility. Switchmake doesn't calculate or file taxes on your behalf.

Email

Your store sends and receives email through a Switchmake address, which means your sending affects every other maker on the platform. Only email people who've asked to hear from you. No purchased lists. Follow the rules that apply to commercial email where you operate. If sending from your store threatens deliverability for everyone else, we may pause it.

Because that address belongs to the platform rather than to you, it stops working when your subscription ends. Keep a contact address of your own — one you'd still have if you left — and give it to your customers.

AI features

Hazel and Darkroom produce generated output. Review it before you publish it — it can be wrong, and once it's on your storefront it's your words and your images.

Suspension and closure

We can suspend or close an account for nonpayment, for illegal or prohibited content, or for behavior that puts the platform or other makers at risk. Where it's safe and reasonable to do so, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to fix it. If we close your account for a reason other than a breach of these policies, we'll refund the unused portion of your billing period.

How we run Switchmake

This isn't a promise about the distant future — nobody can honestly make one of those, and the Changes section below applies here like everywhere else. But it's how the platform works today, and it's what we'd tell you about before changing:

  • We don't charge a percentage of your sales. Your subscription is the price.

  • We don't put advertising on your storefront. Not ours, not anyone's.

  • We give you at least 30 days' notice before changing the price, plan limits, or what's included in the plan.

Features are a different matter, and we don't give notice on those. Switchmake will keep changing: things will be added, reworked, and occasionally removed. We don't promise that any particular feature will exist forever, or that you can stay on an older version of the platform.

Service availability and maintenance

We design Switchmake to be fast, reliable, and continuously available. However, occasional downtime or service interruptions may occur due to scheduled maintenance, software updates, or unexpected technical issues.

  • We aim to perform scheduled maintenance during low-traffic hours and will provide advance notice whenever possible.

  • We keep backups as part of running the platform, but we don't guarantee recovery of any particular data. Keep your own copies of anything you can't afford to lose.

  • Some parts of your store depend on other companies — payment processing, print fulfillment, image processing, email delivery. When one of them has an outage or changes their terms, that affects your store, and it's outside our control.

In plain terms: if someone brings a claim against Switchmake because of what you sold, what you published, or how you ran your store, you're responsible for defending it and for the cost of resolving it. This is the practical consequence of you being the seller and us being the software.

Privacy Policy

Switchmake LLC operates this website. This policy covers information we collect from visitors and from people who sign up for a Switchmake account.

What we collect

When you sign up: your name, email address, business name, and the store details you enter.

When you pay: your plan and billing status. Card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers.

When you sign in: we record sign-in events, including IP address and approximate location, for security. You can see your own sign-in history in your admin. The IP address and location are automatically removed after 30 days.

When you visit: basic page view counts, so we know which pages are useful.

We don't sell personal information, and we don't buy it.

Your customers' information

When someone orders from a store built on Switchmake, their information — name, email, address, order details — belongs to that store, not to us. We hold and process it on the store owner's behalf so their store can function, and we don't use it for anything else.

If you run a store, you're responsible for how you handle your customers' information and for telling them how you handle it. If one of your customers contacts us directly about their information, we'll pass the request to you, since it's your data and your relationship.

How long we keep things

Your account information and store data are kept while your subscription is active, and for one year after it ends. After that they're permanently deleted. Sign-in records have their IP address and approximate location removed after 30 days. Records we're required to keep for tax or accounting purposes are kept as long as the law requires. If you start signing up but don't finish, the incomplete signup is removed after 24 hours. When you replace a product photo, the old one is permanently deleted 7 days later.

Payment processing

Payments are handled by Stripe. Their handling of your information is governed by their own privacy policies.

Cookies

We use cookies that are necessary for the site to work — keeping you signed in, remembering your cart. These can't be turned off without breaking the site.

We don't run advertising trackers on this site.

Who else sees your information

Only the service providers who help us run the platform — hosting, payment processing, image processing, print fulfillment, and email delivery — each limited to that purpose.

Your rights

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email support@switchmake.com and we'll respond within 30 days.

If there's a breach

If we discover a security breach affecting your information, we'll tell you what happened, what was affected, and what we're doing about it, as promptly as we reasonably can and within the time any applicable law requires.

Changes

If we make a material change to this policy, we'll post the updated version and let account holders know by email or in the app.
